What is a Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian works with clients to provide evidence-based information on nutrition and health. “Registered Dietitian” is a protected title in BC through the College of Dietitians of BC, which protects the public by regulating Dietitians to practice safely, ethically and competently.

Registered Dietitians are the only regulated health professionals trained to provide nutrition advice in BC. Registered dietitians must complete a minimum 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition, as well as a one-year accredited practicum and have passed the Canadian Dietitian Registration Exam. You may find dietitians working in health and wellness centres, outpatient clinics, hospitals, universities, food service establishments, and many other settings.
